What does Kashi mean?

Kashi is a term taken from Sanskrit, the language of Indian scholars, and means divine inner light.
According to the yogi the eternal wheel of birth, death and rebirth and thus the entire existence is infused by this divine light that flickers in every human being.
This deep insight liberates him from the cycle and has always been the highest goal of all yoga paths.
Kashi is also the very first name of India’s oldest city Benares, now called Varanasi again, which lies on the banks of the river Ganges and is dedicated to the God Shiva, King of all yogis.
This is such a sacred place for Hindus that according to old legends and songs a person who focuses his thoughts on God and dies in Kashi is liberated from the cycle of death and rebirth.
